Re: O2 Development: Day 1
Quick update on the alarmclock application - and supporting libraries...
I've made some good progress on the GTK+, but am nowhere near ready to create a test app to try on the O2. Building GTK+ requires atk, fontconfig, freetype2, gettext, glib, libiconv, libpng, libz, and pango. Their make environment also relies heavily on pkgconfig, so the port involves much more work to graft into an SDK. I'm currently down to glib/gtk+... But it will be a couple more days before I have some real time to give to it. I really think that this is the path we need to take to get the flexibility for more rapid application development. I was also playing with BOOST but have decided that the "cost" associated with it was too high. After chasing that rabbit for too long, I was starting to recreate the entire cross-compilation environment... Put this one into the too hard bucket for now. Without BOOST, I ended up adding to an old (circa 1999) Date class I found and crafted my own Clock class. These are pretty much ready to go, and my Alarm class is close. I'm at the point now that I'm having to deal with something like tabbed windows or pop-ups. I could take the quick and easy path, but again, the whole purpose of this exercise was to push the SDK... I'll keep poking away and let you all know on the slow progress. |
