Sony LPEC Codec + Sony Plugin for Windows Media Player

Can JetAudio use Windows Media Player plugins?

Sony uses a proprietary LPEC codec for its line of handheld digital recorders. A free plugin for Windows Media Player lets WMP play those recordings. Other than that, Sony's software is the only application -- that I know of -- that can work with the Sony recordings.

I'd like to use JetAudio to play the recordings and convert them from their current format to MP3 format. If JetAudio could use the Sony LPEC codec, or the plugin for WMP, then it would be much easier. Currently, the Sony application can only save as bloated WAV files. WMP can play, but can't save (convert) at all so far as I can tell.

jetAudio can't use Windows Media plugins. Directshow filters are the only way of enhancing jetAudio's file type support. But I guess there are no directshow filters for LPEC, considering it's a proprietary format

This is probably a stupid question, but if I have:

-- LPEC.dll
-- LPECde.ax
-- LPECdec.ax
-- LPECsp.ax

on my system, how hard would it be (for a real programmer) to write a plugin for Jetaudio so that Jetaudio can read Sony LPEC encoded sound files?

It would be quite hard, since no public SDK is available for plugin development. But those files seem to have a directshow filter extension. If so, they should work on any media player if you have the codec properly registered
