JetCast problems!
JetCast problems:
1. Software Firewalls If you are having problems broadcasting or have the feeling that nobody can recieve your station, please check if you have a Software based Firewall such as ZoneAlarm, Sygate, Agnitum Outpost, Tiny Personal Firewall ... installed. If so, please grant the program jetcast.exe full rights to access the net. If your Firewall is more specific than just allowing applications and you want it to just use cetain ports / a port range, please allow the program jetcast.exe access to the ports 9000, 9001 and 9010 (TCP). 2. Hardware Firewalls & Routers - port forwarding If you are using a Hardware based Firewall / Router, and are having problems with JetCast, please enable port-forwarding to your PC. To be able to do this first of all you need to find out your Computers IP adress. You can do this by clicking on "Start -> Run" and typing command. A window with a black background should appear. Please type the word "ipconfig" and press enter. You should get an output that looks a little like this: "Windows ip configuration: Ethernet Adapter Local Area connection: Connection specific DNS Suffix: IP adress: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [...]" Then you want to be accessing your firewall settings - seeing that this is not a generic process, please check your Router/Firewall manual for reference to port forwarding. Set up the port forwarding of the ports 9000, 9001 & 9010 (TCP) to the ip adress that you have just found out (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). 3. What type of connection do you have? If you have a sub DSL/Cable connection, it is very likely that broadcasting (especially in higher bitrates) will not work. There is absolutally no way of fixing this problem except for getting a better internet connection. If you are still having broadcast problems, feel free to post a message in the jetcast technical support forum. But please only post in one forum, seeing that multiple posts will only confuse the people that are trying to help you. Last edited by NeTo : 09-20-2004 at 14:07. Reason: Added "TCP" next to the port numbers |

Great info on how to broadcast....only problem is......it doesn't work....or either we will not know if it works because for over a week now the listing page is always giving the server busy error.. Now I know thats great for the server but it really ****s for those of us that have a listing link on our web pages............this has caused a problem fo me bigtime already.I was taken out of the Rock and Roll web Ring because of the broken link.....they have very strict rules about having links that don't work.......Thank you for your non-service.and making my site a bad one now....I suppose you will never address this situstion or answer this post..........but I wil let all my friends know to remove Jet from their computers because it no longer works

Re: Hardware Firewall
Hi : could you tell us what kind of programs are you using for broadcasting and are you using a router ? That is most important. I used to have the same problem, because I didn't open ports in my router config and I had to click in jetCast OVERRIDE IP ADDRESS and copy the ip from www.whatismyip.com
Let us know of more + Good luck ![]() |

Re: Hardware Firewall
Be sure to goto www.PortForward.com for info on the whole thing.
Note: you'll have to have a working router and you'll also need to know the password and username for most routers.

Re: Hardware Firewall
Another FAQ. Since originally the first post in this topic concentrated on TWO things - ports and firewalls, I'll make a few more pointers.
"What's my listen url?" or "What url do my friends go to, to listen to my radio?" I hear alot. If you broadcast in WMA format with jetCast, your link is mms://your-ip:broadcasting port - Obtain your IP from www.whatismyip.com and port ... self explanitory. Same goes for the MP3 format broadcast, but it changes to http://your-ip:broadcasting port - this url when fixed with your ip and port can work as a listen link in Windows Media Player and possibly jetAudio. Not sure about that one though. In most other programs, the listen link is in fact http://your-ip:broadcasting port/listen.pls http://your-ip:broadcasting port By itself in internet browsers will come up with the jetCast server status page. |

Re: Hardware Firewall
Yet another FAQ. Short but sharp. "How do I broadcast?". Please look at http://www.geocities.com/peercast_listener/how2jet.htm and read through the important posts of the jetCast forum.
FAQ # 2 of 'yet another FAQ' - yeah it sounds like a novel but anyways ... "How do I broadcast to another server?" or "How do I broadcast to an external server?" On jetCast, see Preferences and go to Server. Then go down to the External Server section. Click on Config, select your server and fill in the details. If you know what you're doing, it should be as easy as that. If not, then ask for help here at the forum. In the box to fill in the details about the server ... hints : Port - port of your server. Password - Password to the server. If there's anything else ... well I don't know about it. |
